What is Tickle me Morbid and what is our aim.
Tickle me Morbid is a Film and Theatre Production Company founded in 2009 by Benji Dotan and Nadine Barr. The company was a result of the aftermath of University where a bunch of students wanted to visit the Edinburgh Fringe that year. So in hurried fashion, they wasted little time in trying to fund their trip to the Fringe. Benji decided to write his first every fund-raiser show and in typical Benji fashion, it wasn't just a straight-forward gig, nope. He incorporated cinema with stage at the Picturedrome Cinema establishment in Northampton and hired a slew of actors, comedians, musicians, singers, presenters and more to perform for the evening. The end result was an unusual success (not to mention, stress, headaches and weird situations) and became a hit with some of the actors. So instead of parting ways, we formed TMM and we eventually DID go to the Fringe, albeit a year and a half later, AND with our debut Fringe play. 12 plays in the Midlands, Buckinghamshire and London (as well as the Fringe), a successful networking event, several short films, stand up shows and variety events later, Tickle me Morbid is in its relaunch phase. With a new studio located in the Innovation Centre and lots of new projects. POW!
Tickle me Morbid's name centres around the idea of creating work that laughs at itself or things that are bizarre, unusual, hard to put a finger on. We like thinking about our inner thoughts and how they would come across to others, how placing two opposite characters and sticking them in a predicament will turn out. We specialise in comedy but also delve into more serious material and topics too. Morbid isn't just something for shock value or dark humour but can relate to thinking about our insecurities, our confidences, "what-if" scenarios, our fears and anxieties. The aim for TMM is to generate a reaction that is both exploratory and imaginative.
Tickle me Morbid's style is to elicit a reaction that is both stimulating and intriguing. Making someone feel unique and telling stories that can be stretched, reversed, manipulated, exaggerated, intensified and more instead of its one dimensional form. Allowing an audience to investigate deeply and invest in the characters and understand that mannerisms, thought processes, words, behaviors aren't just generic and straight forward but complex and multi-layered and its about looking deeper into the mind and figuring out different stories, reasons and definitions. Thinking beyond the box but also knowing when to stand firmly in a Grey area and observing both sides to a situation.
Having studied a module in University about taboos, objectification, body confidence, how we perceive the naked skin, beauty, gender, colour, attraction, chemistry, smell, touch, features etc - Tickle me Morbid explores ways to investigate such subjects by creating workshops, plays and short films about these very issues and how we, as performers convey and tell a story with our bodies and our movements and how we interact with one another. Benji Dotan has written and developed ideas based on how a woman and a man can find each other attractive or can connect or feel an energy through movement, subtle emotions, dance, music, smell, touch and lighting effects. Also how can a group of performers find comfort in sharing their emotions and feelings to each other and to an audience, how can words be used in unique ways and how can confidence in your own skin bring forward a more powerful and organic performance.

Why should you collaborate with us?
We believe in collaborations and promoting other projects because it helps the industry and community. It allows people to find a platform and gain insight, experience and advice from various different companies and qualified professionals.
By being approachable and accessible, we can help others produce quality shows and films and they can help us too. By being loyal to the variety of talent and skill-sets out there and showcasing them so they can have enough work and opportunities. We enjoy lending advice but also learning from others and improving each day and the best way to improve, enhance and develop is to learn from others, work alongside them and build rapport.
What can we do for you?
We create and produce:
Tickle me Morbid understands the various different backgrounds and stories on how people break into the industry, whether you have an agent, are represented by Spotlight, have a showreel, have been to University or Drama School or even if you haven't, we all understand, you have to start somewhere and sometimes you just need an opportunity or a chance and TMM is all about helping people improve, bringing out their hidden talents and/or utilising them to their absolute potential.
What makes us unique.
Our plays and films explore recognisable situations and fictional situations and the happenings that could or should or would have happened. Basing our material and research on the Pirandello theory: What would happen between the characters of a show after the audience has left? Do they exist or do they fade away? We also meddle with words and their meanings and how they can affect dialogue. Our humour is also unique and experimental with exploration into what makes different people laugh, why we laugh at certain things, what we feel awkward about and why do we always pander to our curiosities?
